Wedding Photographers: Common Questions
What things cost, when to book, and what to check before paying an advance.
In your city, expect ₹40,000–₹80,000 for single-day candid coverage with a small team, ₹1,00,000–₹2,50,000 for multi-day coverage with a cinematic film, and ₹3,00,000+ for the most in-demand studios. Album printing, drone coverage and pre-wedding shoots are usually quoted as add-ons.
Traditional coverage produces the posed portraits and ritual shots your family will expect in the album. Candid coverage documents unposed moments as they happen. Most couples in your city book both — a traditional photographer for the ceremony and a candid team working alongside them.
A typical single-day wedding yields 600–1,200 edited photographs. Reasonable delivery is 4–8 weeks for photos and 8–12 weeks for a cinematic film. Get the number of edited images and the delivery timeline written into the contract — this is the single most common source of post-wedding disputes.
It is optional but useful for two reasons: you get comfortable in front of the photographer before the wedding, and you get images for invitations and the reception screen. Pre-wedding shoots in your city typically cost ₹25,000–₹75,000 depending on location and whether outfits and travel are included.
Under Indian copyright law the photographer owns the copyright unless the contract assigns it to you. Most studios grant you unlimited personal use and retain the right to use images in their portfolio. If you want images kept private, say so before signing.
Six to nine months for a peak-season date in your city, and longer for the top studios, who often close their November–February calendar a year ahead. If your date is fixed, booking the photographer early is more urgent than most other categories.
Ask this before booking. Established studios maintain a backup shooter network and will state this in the contract. A solo photographer with no backup arrangement is a real risk on a non-repeatable event — factor it into your decision.
Drone footage works well for outdoor venues, baraat processions and large open-lawn setups. It adds little at an indoor banquet hall. Note that drone use requires permission at many venues in your city and is restricted near airports, so confirm feasibility before paying for it.
