The single biggest planning difference in a South Indian wedding is that the muhurtham is often between 4 AM and 8 AM. That one fact reshapes your vendor requirements, your budget and your timeline in ways generic wedding advice never accounts for.

What an early muhurtham changes

• Your makeup artist starts at 2–3 AM. Confirm this explicitly; many artists charge a premium for it.
• Photography is in low light or mixed temple lighting. Ask to see the photographer’s work in exactly these conditions.
• Catering runs breakfast, not dinner — a completely different menu and staffing pattern.
• Decor setup happens overnight, so venue access from the previous evening matters more.

Temple weddings versus kalyana mantapam

Temple weddings are considerably cheaper but come with hard constraints: fixed timings, limited decor permissions, restricted photography in the sanctum and often no outside catering. A kalyana mantapam gives you control at a higher cost. Decide this before shortlisting decorators, because half of them cannot work within temple restrictions.
